Kelly Anlas built the breakout rooms we've all been wishing for

Kelly opened our member show and tell with Teda, a video platform she built with Claude Code that matches people into breakout rooms on purpose. We were wowed.

You know the moment. The host says "we'll pop you into breakout rooms now," your screen goes black for a second, and you land in a room with two strangers and someone's cat. Sometimes it's magic. Mostly it's luck.

Kelly Anlas decided it didn't have to be. She kicked off Built by Willa, our member show and tell in October, with a demo of Teda, a video platform she built herself with Claude Code. Watching it work, we all had the same thought: why doesn't every event already do this?

Teda started with her co-creator, Alenka Kyslik. It was Alenka's idea: she came to Kelly wanting to improve the quality of matchmaking in her community, and days later Kelly had a prototype.

How it works

The host decides what the matching is based on, like industry, asks or offers. Everyone joins from one link and adds a few details about themselves. Then the host hits a single button and Teda sorts people into rooms where, as Kelly's site puts it, every pairing has a reason.

When a round ends, everyone comes back to the main room and gets matched again, and Teda works to avoid putting you with the same people twice. Nobody has to frantically drag names between rooms. And nothing from the session gets stored.

Built for the rooms that matter

Founders meeting investors. Hiring managers meeting job seekers. Mentors meeting mentees. When who you end up talking to is the whole point, Teda makes sure it isn't left to chance.

Why she built it

"Most of our common technology tools aren't built for us," Kelly says. "They spy on us, sell our data for profit, and encourage habits that keep us addicted. I see AI-enabled coding as a potential equalizer, because we really can just build things now."

Teda is her example of a tool that's for us and built by us, and she's planning to expand it for her own personal networking too. Her favorite detail? "Once you have hover-over LinkedIn links, you'll never want to go back!"

Why we love it

Kelly saw a problem every one of us has sat through, a dozen awkward breakouts deep, and instead of waiting for someone else to fix it, she built the fix. That's exactly what Willa is about, and we'd love to see Teda out in the wild.
